Q&A
No, you don't need special clothing to practice Taiji. We suggest comfortable clothes and clean shoes or socks for practice in the gym or at the Daomoon Taiji Studio.
Yes, it's possible to join the beginner courses at any time of the year. A teacher will be assigned to follow the people who start during each class. Furthermore, for the first few times, it's possible to arrange an extra free and individual half-hour before the class.
Our activities are open to people of all ages from 16. Currently attending students are people, young in spirit, between 16 and 80 years old.
Lessons are held at our headquarters in Pietrasanta (Daomoon Taiji Studio) and at gyms in different locations; in summer they are also held outdoors.
The activities are reserved for members, therefore once the person has decided to enroll, he will be registered with the UISP and requested a medical certificate for non-competitive sports.
An ordinary class consists of about 15 minutes of Gm Huang's Loosening Exercises (Taiji - Qi Gong), 40-45 minutes of taiji (taiji forms and work with a partner) and 15 minutes of sitting meditation, in addition to the time used for the questions and answers.
Yes, a minimum attendance of twice a week is strongly recommended to ensure that the efforts made by the student can be valued. It is possible to freely choose the classes to attend, even from week to week, during the hours and in the places of practice most comfortable for the student, among those available. An attendance of three times or more can produce for someone strongly motivated a better way to learn.
Lessons are held throughout the year, there are no periods of suspension, except on public holidays. Classes continue even in summer, some of them are done outdoors.
No, depending on the need, classes can also be held in English or French.
Yes, of course, it is possible to join the lessons whatever the level of the person in Taiji and any kind of experience has been made in other disciplines. The teachers have between twenty and thirty years of practice and will be assigned to follow the people who start according to their level and need.
Yes, you can freely participate in a trial lesson. For those who prefer, it is also possible to arrange an introductory lesson half an hour before the ordinary class.
"There is only one true Taiji, one set of principles. Human deviation gave rise to family styles (Yang, Wu, Chen etc) which each has strengths and weaknesses. Their strengths are where they follow the principles and their weaknesses are where they deviate from the principles.
We emphasize the waist movement (twisting wave) of the Chen Style, the advancing (issuing transverse wave) power of the Yang Style, the borrowing of partners force (neutralising vertical pressure wave) of the Wu style. We follow my teachers advice: <<Go back to the first principles before the styles diverged.>>" (Patrick Kelly)
Offering 14+ classes a week there is absolute no need for private classes.
While individual attention seems to produce a faster learning at the beginning, soon it will manifest an unbalanced grown, very difficult to change at a later stage. A too selfish motive for student and a too much greedly one for instructors, private classes should be avoided by true researchers who really want to grow internally strong and balanced.
Teachers are available for free before or after each class to reply to personal questions. Occasionally extra public classes, open for everyone, can be arranged to help people coming from far to attend as much as possible while they are here.
